Hello my rebels and not so rebels!
And Happy birthday to my Brother Justyn!!
It’s a new week and today I’m here to talk about something that happened to me about a month ago. This situation happened while I had my daughter which disgusted me even more.
I’ll be honest as a curvy woman I’ve learned to get used to men cat calling, whistling and going as far as cursing at me when I’ve shown no interest.
Now I’m not the type of woman to be rude to someone because honestly it takes courage to approach someone but don’t be rude or disrespectful, then you will receive the same in return.
Well this situation was definitely one of those to where as a woman I was disgusted and as a parent of a beautiful little girl simply made me worry.
Alright so let’s get to what happened…
We were at the local gas station, one that we go to often to get gas and to get snacks if we are in the area. This day we were getting gas and I was paying with cash, which requires you to go inside.
So here we are in line, waiting to pay for our gas. The guy in front of us was already trying to let like 3 people come in line with him until they realized there was quite the line behind them. As they moved to the back of the line of the the guys who was going to get in front of us got behind us.
Now as he’s standing behind us, he speaks Spanish to the guy he’s standing next to and tells him how I have a “fat ass”. Within that same moment I feel a hand graze my butt and my heart stopped. That wasn’t the first time that’s happened to me but as an adult I never imagined I would have to go through that again and in front of my daughter.
My daughter noticed my face and immediately asked me what was wrong. I told her we would talk about it in the car because at that point my blood was boiling. I simply let the guy know that was “disgusting and completely disrespectful.”
As we got in the car, I explained to my daughter what happened and asked her to please let me or someone know if they touch her bottom or any where private.
Which left me in a place to wonder…
What makes these men think stuff like this is okay? Who gives you the right or the permission to blatantly disrespect a woman and more so in front of her daughter?!
It angers me and hurts my heart that my daughter will be growing into a society where some men think that type of behavior is acceptable. It makes me want to make sure even more that I’m teaching her all she needs to know to protect herself and make sure my son doesn’t turn into one of those men.
Women, if you’ve experienced this type of behavior don’t stay quiet. It’s NOT okay and NO ONE deserves to go through anything like that.
Okay, rant is over, had to get that out.
With today being my brother’s birthday, I’m going to dedicate my next post to him and our relationship over the years.
Be safe everyone and Happy Trick or Treating!!
